The Upsell That Earns Its Keep

Motorised Blinds & Automation

One app, one remote, every blind on the ridge-facing side of the house — and on wide or high glass, often the only practical option at all.

One remote, one schedule — and on wide or high glass, often the only control that gets used at all.
01

Battery or wired — the honest trade-off

Rechargeable battery motors need no wiring and retrofit into an existing Northcliff home easily; you charge them every few months via a USB-style charger. Wired 220V motors suit new builds and renovations — permanent, no charging, and the right choice for big or heavy systems and anything exterior. An electrician and a bit of planning is required either way.

02

Control that matches how you actually live

Start with a handset remote — one remote, every blind on that wall. Add app control for when you're wondering from the office whether you left the west blinds up. Schedules drop the ridge-facing wall at three in summer without anyone touching a switch. Sun sensors do the same job automatically, and wind sensors retract awnings and exterior screens before a Highveld storm reaches them — genuinely safety-critical on anything exterior.

03

When it stops being optional

Spans too wide or heavy for a chain, blinds above a stair void or double-volume window, concealed ceiling-recess systems, external venetians, awnings and zip screens, or a full wall of glass with six blinds on it — motorisation is the practical answer, not a luxury add-on, in every one of those cases.

  • No dangling chains — the most child-safe operation there is
  • Wind sensors on exterior products, standard, not optional
  • Scales well — one remote or app, however many blinds you add over time
Honest note: battery motors are quiet but not silent, and need that periodic charge — we'll set that expectation clearly at quote stage, not after installation.
Pricing

What motorisation costs

There is no standalone price for motorisation, because what you buy is a product with a motor inside it. Across the range fitted here, motorised shading spans roughly R2,500 to R7,500 per square metre installed: a motorised roller at R2,500 to R3,800, a motorised aluminium venetian at R2,500 to R3,600, and a motorised external venetian at R4,500 to R6,500.

Small openings are charged at a minimum whatever moves them, and a battery motor retrofitted into a finished room is a different job from a wired motor planned into a renovation. Which one your house needs, and what each opening comes to, is decided at the free measure and put in writing.

Where We Fit These

Motorised automation gets specified on the widest, hardest-to-reach glass across our patch — wide view walls in Blackheath, Fairland, Weltevredenpark and Windsor as often as on the ridge itself.
